“Perhaps I should have read something into the fact that when I first laid eyes on Sam some girl was yelling at him, and when I first met Kevin he nearly killed me...”

Jo’s summer is off to an interesting start. Now all the teenager needs is a job, future plans and a few goals for her life. No big deal right?

She’d also like to know why no one talks about the horrible accident she witnessed last summer at Cornerstone church. But as much as she wants to know the truth, someone else wants to keep it a secret. Can she handle creepy stalker guys, death threats and her crazy love life without losing control?

For Jo, unravelling the mystery and piecing her life back together will mean discovering if God really listens—and if he cares enough to answer.

If Only You Knew: Chapter One

Perhaps I should have read something into the fact that when I first laid eyes on Sam some girl was yelling at him, and when I first met Kevin he nearly killed me.

There I’d been, minding my own business, wandering aimlessly down Silverpoint beach letting the sun soak into my limbs when—

“I hate you, Sam! You hear me? I hate you! I HATE you!”

This shrieking, high-pitched voice took over the air, and all of a sudden, my day got a lot more interesting.

“You are so arrogant, Sam!”

A beach bag went flying past my nose.

“And you’re completely insane!”

A beach umbrella followed.

“You are the most self-centered, egotistical, controlling, annoying, irritating, idiotic guy I have ever met...”

A bleached blonde in a lurid pink sarong was having a rather spectacular fight with her boyfriend on the beach.

“...and I’d rather eat rusty nails than go out with you ever again! We’re over, Sam! You hear that? Over!”

Make that ex-boyfriend.

“Traci...” Sam started to say, then ducked as a half-empty can of diet cola went flying by his head. “Traci," he started again. “Look, why don’t we just—”

“No Sam! NO! For once you’re going to stand there and listen to what I have to say!”

Fair enough. But the problem was they were sort of blocking my path.

Sam was standing on the road, beside his car. And Traci was busy jumping, and screaming, and stomping around on the beach.

I really couldn’t keep going without walking right between them, and risk getting hit by whatever Traci decided to hurl next, or making a spectacle of myself by either traipsing through the water or out onto the road to get around them.

So I did the next best thing. I sat down and watched.
